^dDoes the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’
or ‘Your work has no handles’?

Jeremiah 1:18-19

18 And I, behold, I make you this day ^ea fortified city, ^fan iron pillar, and ^gbronze walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the land. 19 ^hThey will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you, for ⁱI am with you, declares the Lord, to deliver you.”

Jeremiah 21:4-5

4 ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: ^jBehold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands and with which you are fighting against the king of Babylon and against the Chaldeans who are besieging you outside the walls. ^kAnd I will bring them together into the midst of this city. 5 I myself will fight against you ^lwith outstretched hand and strong arm, ^min anger and in fury and in great wrath.

The Lord’s Answer

wonder and be astounded.
^oFor I am doing a work in your days
that you would not believe if told.
6 For behold, ^pI am raising up the Chaldeans,
that bitter and hasty nation,
^qwho march through the breadth of the earth,
^rto seize dwellings not their own.
7 They are dreaded and fearsome;
^stheir justice and dignity go forth from themselves.
8 ^tTheir horses are swifter than leopards,
more fierce than ^uthe evening wolves;
their horsemen press proudly on.
Their horsemen come from afar;
^vthey fly like an eagle swift to devour.
9 They all come ^wfor violence,
all their faces forward.
They gather captives ^xlike sand.
10 At kings they scoff,
and at rulers they laugh.
^yThey laugh at every fortress,
for ^zthey pile up earth and take it.
