Job 42:6-17

6 therefore I despise myself,
and repent ^{▼▼Or and am comforted} in ^bdust and ashes.”

The Lord Rebukes Job’s Friends

7 After the Lord had spoken these words to Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz ^cthe Temanite: “My anger burns against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has. 8 Now therefore take ^dseven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and ^eoffer up a burnt offering for yourselves. And my servant Job shall ^fpray for you, for I will accept his prayer not to deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.” 9 ^gSo Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did what the Lord had told them, and the Lord accepted Job’s prayer.

The Lord Restores Job’s Fortunes

10 And the Lord ^hrestored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job ⁱtwice as much as he had before. 11 Then came to him all his ^jbrothers and sisters and all who had ^kknown him before, and ate bread with him in his house. And they ^lshowed him sympathy and comforted him for all the evil ^{▼▼Or disaster} that the Lord had brought upon him. And each of them gave him ⁿa piece of money ^{▼▼Hebrew a qesitah; a unit of money of unknown value} and ^pa ring of gold.

12 And the Lord blessed ^qthe latter days of Job more than his beginning. And he had ^r14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. 13 He had also ^sseven sons and three daughters. 14 And he called the name of the first daughter Jemimah, and the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-happuch. 15 And in all the land there were no women so beautiful as Job’s daughters. And their father gave them an inheritance ^tamong their brothers. 16 And after this Job lived 140 years, and ^usaw his sons, and his sons’ sons, four generations. 17 And Job died, an old man, and ^vfull of days.

Proverbs 15:33

33 ^wThe fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom,
and ^xhumility comes before honor.

Isaiah 6:5-13

5 And I said: “Woe is me! ^yFor I am lost; ^zfor I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the ^aaKing, the Lord of hosts!”

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he ^abtouched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

Isaiah’s Commission from the Lord

8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for ^acus?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” 9 And he said, “Go, and say to this people:

keep on seeing, ^{▼▼Or see indeed} but do not perceive.’

and their ears heavy,

^ajlest they see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears,
and understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”
11 Then I said, ^ak“How long, O Lord?”
And he said:
“Until ^alcities lie waste
without inhabitant,
and houses without people,
and the land is a desolate waste,
12 and the Lord removes people far away,
and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.
13 ^amAnd though a tenth remain in it,
it will be burned ^{▼▼Or purged} again,
like a terebinth or an oak,
whose stump ^aoremains
when it is felled.”
^apThe holy seed ^{▼▼Or offspring} is its stump.
