20They are aashamed because they were confident;
they come there and are bdisappointed.

Isaiah 28:17

17And I will make justice cthe line,
and righteousness dthe plumb line;
and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies,
and waters will overwhelm the shelter.”

Isaiah 30:1-7

Do Not Go Down to Egypt

1 Ah, estubborn children,” declares the Lord,
f“who carry out a plan, but not mine,
and who make gan alliance,
Hebrew  who weave a web
but not of my Spirit,
that they may add sin to sin;
2 iwho set out to go down to Egypt,
without asking for my direction,
to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh
and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!
3 jTherefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame,
and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation.
4For though his officials are at kZoan
and lhis envoys reach mHanes,
5everyone comes to shame
through na people that cannot profit them,
that brings neither help nor profit,
but shame and disgrace.”
6An ooracle on pthe beasts of qthe Negeb.

Through a land of trouble and anguish,
from where come the lioness and the lion,
the adder and the rflying fiery serpent,
they carry their riches on the backs of donkeys,
and their treasures on the humps of camels,
to a people that cannot profit them.
7Egypt’s shelp is worthless and empty;
therefore I have called her
tRahab who sits still.”

Isaiah 30:15-16

15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel,
“In ureturning
Or repentance
and wrest you shall be saved;
in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”
But you were unwilling,
16and you said,
No! We will flee upon xhorses”;
therefore you shall flee away;
and, “We will ride upon swift steeds”;
therefore your pursuers shall be swift.

Isaiah 31:1-3

Woe to Those Who Go Down to Egypt

1 Woe to ythose who go down to Egypt for help
and rely on horses,
who ztrust in chariots because they are many
and in horsemen because they are very strong,
but aado not look to the Holy One of Israel
or consult the Lord!
2And abyet he is wise and brings disaster;
ache does not call back his words,
but adwill arise against the house of the evildoers
and against the helpers of aethose who work iniquity.
3The Egyptians are man, and not God,
and their horses afare flesh, and not spirit.
When the Lord stretches out his hand,
the helper will stumble, and he who is helped will fall,
and they will all perish together.
