Job 8:13-19

13Such are the paths of all who aforget God;
bthe hope of cthe godless shall perish.
14His confidence is severed,
and his trust is da spider’s web.
Hebrew house

15He leans against his fhouse, but it does not stand;
he lays hold of it, but it does not endure.
16He is a lush plant before the sun,
and his gshoots spread over his garden.
17His roots entwine the stone heap;
he looks upon a house of stones.
18If he is destroyed from his hplace,
then it will deny him, saying, ‘I have never iseen you.’
19Behold, this is the joy of his way,
and out of jthe soil others will spring.

Ezekiel 31:6-10

6 kAll the birds of the heavens
made their nests in its boughs;
under its branches all the beasts of the field
gave birth to their young,
and under its shadow
lived all great nations.
7It was lbeautiful in its greatness,
in the length of its branches;
mfor its roots went down
to abundant waters.
8 nThe cedars oin the garden of God could not rival it,
nor the fir trees equal its boughs;
neither were the plane trees
like its branches;
no tree pin the garden of God
was its equal in beauty.
9I made it beautiful
in the mass of its branches,
and all the trees of qEden envied it,
that were in the garden of God.
10Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because rit

Ezekiel 31:18

18 uWhom are you thus like in glory and in greatness vamong the trees of Eden? wYou shall be brought down with xthe trees of Eden to the world below. yYou shall lie among the uncircumcised, zwith those who are slain by the sword.

Daniel 4:20-33

20 abThe tree you saw, which grew and became strong, so that its top reached to heaven, and it was visible to the end of the whole earth, 21 acwhose leaves were beautiful and its fruit abundant, and in which was food for all, under which beasts of the field found shade, and in whose branches the birds of the heavens lived 22 adit is you, O king, who have grown and become strong. aeYour greatness has grown and reaches to heaven, afand your dominion to the ends of the earth. 23And because the king saw aga watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying, ahChop down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump of its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field, and let him be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till aiseven periods of time pass over him,’ 24this is the interpretation, O king: It is a decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king, 25 ajthat you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. You shall be made akto eat grass like an ox, and you shall be wet with the dew of heaven, and alseven periods of time shall pass over you, till amyou know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will. 26And as it was commanded anto leave the stump of the roots of the tree, your kingdom shall be confirmed for you from the time that you know that Heaven rules. 27Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you: break off your sins by aopracticing righteousness, apand your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed, aqthat there may perhaps be a lengthening of your prosperity.”

Nebuchadnezzar’s Humiliation

28All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar. 29At the end of twelve months he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, 30and the king answered and said, ar“Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by asmy mighty power as a royal residence and for atthe glory of my majesty?” 31 auWhile the words were still in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, “O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom has departed from you, 32 avand you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. And you shall be made to eat grass like an ox, and seven periods of time shall pass over you, awuntil you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will.” 33Immediately the word was fulfilled against Nebuchadnezzar. axHe was driven from among men and ate grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair grew as long as eagles’ feathers, and his nails were like birds’ claws.
