The Hatred of the World
18 g“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 hIf you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because iyou are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20Remember the word that I said to you: j‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, kthey will also persecute you. lIf they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 21But mall these things they will do to you non account of my name, obecause they do not know him who sent me. 22If I had not come and spoken to them, pthey would not have been guilty of sin, ▼▼Greek they would not have sin; also verse 24
but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 rWhoever hates me hates my Father also. 24 sIf I had not done among them the works that no one else did, tthey would not be guilty of sin, but now they have useen and hated both me and my Father. 25But vthe word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: w‘They hated me without a cause.’ Acts 13:45
45 xBut ywhen the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with zjealousy and began to contradict what was spoken by Paul, aareviling him.James 3:14-16
14But if you have bitter abjealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15This is not acthe wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, addemonic. 16For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.
