John 15:18-19

The Hatred of the World

18 aIf the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 bIf you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because cyou are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

Acts 9:5

5And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, I am Jesus, dwhom you are persecuting.

1 John 3:12-20

12We should not be like eCain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? fBecause his own deeds were evil and his brother’s righteous. 13Do not be surprised, brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters. The plural Greek word adelphoi (translated “brothers”) refers to siblings in a family. In New Testament usage, depending on the context, adelphoi may refer either to men or to both men and women who are siblings (brothers and sisters) in God’s family, the church; also verses 14, 16
hthat the world hates you.
14We know that iwe have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. 15 jEveryone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that kno murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

16By this we know love, that lhe laid down his life for us, and mwe ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17But nif anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet ocloses his heart against him, phow does God’s love abide in him? 18Little children, let us not qlove in word or talk but in deed and rin truth.

19By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; 20for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.

1 John 5:1-3

Overcoming the World

1 sEveryone who believes that tJesus is the Christ has been born of God, and ueveryone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2 vBy this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3For wthis is the love of God, that we xkeep his commandments. And yhis commandments are not burdensome.
