John 5:39-47

39 aYou search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and bit is they that bear witness about me, 40yet cyou refuse to come to me that you may have life. 41 dI do not receive glory from people. 42But eI know that you do not have fthe love of God within you. 43I have come gin my Father’s name, and hyou do not receive me. iIf another comes in his own name, you will receive him. 44How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and jdo not seek the glory that comes from kthe only God? 45Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, lon whom you have set your hope. 46For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for mhe wrote of me. 47But nif you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”

Romans 3:31

31Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.

Romans 13:1-10

Submission to the Authorities

1Let every person obe subject to the governing authorities. For pthere is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you qwill receive his approval, 4for rhe is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, san avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also tfor the sake of conscience. 6For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. 7 uPay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.

Fulfilling the Law Through Love

8 vOwe no one anything, except to love each other, for wthe one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9For the commandments, x“You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: y“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore zlove is the fulfilling of the law.

Galatians 5:13-14

13For you were called to freedom, brothers. aaOnly do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love abserve one another. 14For acthe whole law is fulfilled in one word: ad“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Galatians 5:24-25

24And those who belong to Christ Jesus aehave crucified the flesh with its afpassions and desires.

25If we live by the Spirit, aglet us also keep in step with the Spirit.

James 2:9-13

9But if you ahshow partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point aihas become guilty of all of it. 11For he who said, aj“Do not commit adultery,” also said, ak“Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under althe law of liberty. 13For amjudgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
