John 9:39-41

39Jesus said, aFor judgment I came into this world, bthat those who do not see may see, and cthose who see may become blind.” 40Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, dAre we also blind?” 41Jesus said to them, If you were blind, eyou would have no guilt;
Greek  you would not have sin
but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.

John 12:38-40

38 gso that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:

hLord, who has believed what he heard from us,
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
39Therefore they icould not believe. For again Isaiah said,

40 j“He has blinded their eyes
and khardened their heart,
lest they see with their eyes,
and understand with their heart, and turn,
and I would heal them.”

Romans 11:8-10

8as it is written,

lGod gave them a spirit of stupor,
meyes that would not see
and ears that would not hear,
down to this very day.”
9And David says,

n“Let their table become a snare and a trap,
a stumbling block and a retribution for them;
10let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see,
and bend their backs forever.”

1 Corinthians 1:18-29

Christ the Wisdom and Power of God

18For the word of the cross is ofolly to pthose who are perishing, but to us qwho are being saved it is rthe power of God. 19For it is written,

s“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”
20 tWhere is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? uHas not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach
Or  the folly of preaching
to save those who believe.
22For wJews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23but we preach Christ xcrucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ ythe power of God and zthe wisdom of God. 25For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

26For consider your calling, brothers: aanot many of you were wise according to worldly standards,
Greek  according to the flesh
not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.
27But acGod chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; adGod chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28God chose what is low and despised in the world, even aethings that are not, to afbring to nothing things that are, 29so agthat no human being
Greek  no flesh
might boast in the presence of God.

1 Corinthians 2:6-8

Wisdom from the Spirit

6Yet among aithe mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not aja wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, akwho are doomed to pass away. 7But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, alwhich God decreed before the ages for our glory. 8None of amthe rulers of this age understood this, for anif they had, they would not have crucified aothe Lord of glory.

1 Corinthians 3:18-20

18 apLet no one deceive himself. aqIf anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19For arthe wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, as“He catches the wise in their craftiness,” 20and again, at“The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”
