Jonah 1:2-3
2“Arise, go to aNineveh, that bgreat city, and call out against it, cfor their evil ▼▼The same Hebrew word can mean evil or disaster, depending on the context; so throughout Jonah
has come up before me.” 3But Jonah erose to flee to fTarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to gJoppa and found a ship going to hTarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to iTarshish, jaway from the presence of the Lord. Jonah 4:1-4
Jonah’s Anger and the Lord’s Compassion
1But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, ▼▼Hebrew it was exceedingly evil to Jonah
and lhe was angry. 2And he prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? mThat is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a ngracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and orelenting from disaster. 3 pTherefore now, O Lord, please take my life from me, qfor it is better for me to die than to live.” 4And the Lord said, r“Do you do well to be angry?” Jonah 4:9
9But God said to Jonah, s“Do you do well to be angry for the plant?” And he said, “Yes, I do well to be angry, angry enough to die.”Hebrews 7:26
26For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, tholy, innocent, unstained, useparated from sinners, and vexalted above the heavens.
