Jonah 4:1-4
Jonah’s Anger and the Lord’s Compassion
1But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, ▼▼Hebrew it was exceedingly evil to Jonah
and bhe was angry. 2And he prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? cThat is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a dgracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and erelenting from disaster. 3 fTherefore now, O Lord, please take my life from me, gfor it is better for me to die than to live.” 4And the Lord said, h“Do you do well to be angry?” Luke 9:55
55But he turned and rebuked them. ▼▼Some manuscripts add and he said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of; for the Son of Man came not to destroy people’s lives but to save them”
