The Sun Stands Still

1As soon as Adoni-zedek, king of Jerusalem, heard how Joshua had captured Ai and had devoted it to destruction,
That is, set apart ( devoted) as an offering to the Lord (for destruction); also verses 28, 35, 37, 39, 40
bdoing to Ai and its king cas he had done to Jericho and its king, and dhow the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were among them,

feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, like one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were warriors.
3So Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, to Piram king of Jarmuth, to Japhia king of Lachish, and to Debir king of Eglon, saying, 4“Come up to me and help me, and let us strike Gibeon. For git has made peace with Joshua and with the people of Israel.” 5Then the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, hgathered their forces and went up with all their armies and encamped against Gibeon and made war against it.

6And the men of Gibeon sent to Joshua iat the camp in Gilgal, saying, “Do not relax your hand from your servants. Come up to us quickly and save us and help us, for all the kings of the Amorites who dwell in the hill country are gathered against us.”

Persecution Will Come

16 jBehold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be kwise as serpents and linnocent as doves. 17Beware of men, for mthey will deliver you over to courts and flog you nin their synagogues, 18 oand you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, pto bear witness before them and the Gentiles. 19 qWhen rthey deliver you over, sdo not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for twhat you are to say will be given to you in that hour. 20 uFor it is not you who speak, but vthe Spirit of your Father speaking through you. 21 wBrother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, 22 xand you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. yBut the one who endures to the end will be saved. 23When they zpersecute you in one town, aaflee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel abbefore the Son of Man comes.
