Joshua 24:19-22

19But Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the Lord, for he is aa holy God. He is ba jealous God; che will not forgive your transgressions or your sins. 20 dIf you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then ehe will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good.” 21And the people said to Joshua, “No, but we will serve the Lord.” 22Then Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that fyou have chosen the Lord, to serve him.” And they said, “We are witnesses.”

Luke 14:26-33

26 gIf anyone comes to me and hdoes not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, iyes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. 27 jWhoever does not kbear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. 28For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not lfirst sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? 29Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not msit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 nSo therefore, any one of you who odoes not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.

Luke 18:22-23

22When Jesus heard this, he said to him, One thing you still lack. pSell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have qtreasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 23 rBut when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.

John 6:60-66

The Words of Eternal Life

60 sWhen many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” 61But Jesus, tknowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this? 62Then what if you were to see uthe Son of Man vascending to wwhere he was before? 63 xIt is the Spirit who gives life; ythe flesh is no help at all. zThe words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64But aathere are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus abknew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and acwho it was who would betray him.) 65And he said, This is why I told you adthat no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”

66 aeAfter this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.
