Joshua 24:2

2And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Long ago, ayour fathers lived beyond the Euphrates,
Hebrew  the River
Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor; and cthey served other gods.

Joshua 24:15

15 dAnd if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, echoose this day whom you will serve, whether fthe gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or gthe gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. hBut as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Psalms 115:4-8

4 iTheir idols are silver and gold,
jthe work of human hands.
5They have mouths, kbut do not speak;
eyes, but do not see.
6They have ears, but do not hear;
noses, but do not smell.
7They have hands, but do not feel;
feet, but do not walk;
and they do not make a sound in their throat.
8 lThose who make them become like them;
so do all who trust in them.

Psalms 135:15-18

15 mThe idols of the nations are silver and gold,
the work of human hands.
16They have mouths, but do not speak;
they have eyes, but do not see;
17they have ears, but do not hear,
nor is there any breath in their mouths.
18Those who make them become like them,
so do all who trust in them.

Isaiah 44:9-20

The Folly of Idolatry

9 nAll who fashion idols are nothing, and the things they delight in do not profit. Their witnesses neither see nor know, that they may be put to shame. 10 oWho fashions a god or casts an idol that is profitable for nothing? 11 pBehold, all his companions shall be put to shame, and the craftsmen are only human. Let them all assemble, let them stand forth. They shall be terrified; they shall be put to shame together.

12 qThe ironsmith takes a cutting tool and works it over the coals. He fashions it with hammers and works it with his strong arm. He becomes hungry, and his strength fails; he drinks no water and is faint. 13The carpenter stretches a line; he marks it out with a pencil. He shapes it with planes and marks it with a compass. rHe shapes it into the figure of a man, with the beauty of a man, to dwell in a house. 14 sHe cuts down cedars, or he chooses a cypress tree or an oak and lets it grow strong among the trees of the forest. He plants a cedar and the rain nourishes it. 15Then it becomes fuel for a man. He takes a part of it and warms himself; he kindles a fire and bakes bread. Also he makes a god and worships it; he makes it an idol and falls down before it. 16Half of it he burns in the fire. Over the half he eats meat; he roasts it and is satisfied. Also he warms himself and says, “Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire!” 17And the rest of it he makes into a god, his idol, and falls down to it and worships it. tHe prays to it and says, “Deliver me, for you are my god!”

18They know not, nor do they discern, for he has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts, so that they cannot understand. 19No one considers, nor is there knowledge or discernment to say, “Half of it I burned in the fire; I also baked bread on its coals; I roasted meat and have eaten. And shall I make the rest of it an uabomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?” 20 vHe feeds on washes; a deluded heart has led him astray, and he cannot deliver himself or say, “Is there not xa lie in my right hand?”

Jeremiah 10:3-16

3 yfor the customs of the peoples are vanity.
Or vapor, or mist

aaA tree from the forest is cut down
and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman.
4 abThey decorate it with silver and gold;
acthey fasten it with hammer and nails
so that it cannot move.
5Their idols
Hebrew They
are like scarecrows in a cucumber field,
and aethey cannot speak;
afthey have to be carried,
for they cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of them,
agfor they cannot do evil,
neither is it in them to do good.”
6 ahThere is none like you, O Lord;
you are great, and your name is great in might.
7 aiWho would not fear you, O King of the nations?
For this is your due;
for among all the wise ones of the nations
and in all their kingdoms
there is none like you.
8 ajThey are both akstupid and foolish;
the instruction of idols is but wood!
9 alBeaten silver is brought from amTarshish,
and gold from anUphaz.
aoThey are the work of the craftsman and of the hands of the goldsmith;
their clothing is violet and purple;
apthey are all the work of skilled men.
10 aqBut the Lord is the true God;
arhe is the living God and the everlasting King.
At his wrath the earth quakes,
and the nations cannot endure his indignation.
11Thus shall you say to them: as“The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth atshall perish from the earth and from under the heavens.”
This verse is in Aramaic

12 avIt is he who awmade the earth by his power,
axwho established the world by his wisdom,
and ayby his understanding stretched out the heavens.
13 azWhen he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens,
baand he makes the mist rise from the ends of the earth.
bbHe makes lightning bcfor the rain,
bdand he brings forth the wind befrom his storehouses.
14 bfEvery man is stupid and without knowledge;
bgevery goldsmith is put to shame by his idols,
for his images are false,
bhand there is no breath in them.
15They are worthless, a work of delusion;
at the time of their punishment they shall perish.
16Not like these is he who is bithe portion of Jacob,
for he is the one who formed all things,
bjand Israel is the tribe of his inheritance;
bkthe Lord of hosts is his name.
