Joshua 7:18

18And he brought near his household man by man, and Achan the son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

Joshua 15

The Allotment for Judah

1The allotment for the tribe of the people of Judah according to their clans reached southward ato the boundary of Edom, to bthe wilderness of Zin at the farthest south. 2And their south boundary ran from the end of the cSalt Sea, from the bay that faces southward. 3It goes out southward of dthe ascent of Akrabbim, passes along to Zin, and goes up south of Kadesh-barnea, along by Hezron, up to Addar, turns about to Karka, 4passes along to Azmon, goes out by ethe Brook of Egypt, and comes to its end at the sea. This shall be your south boundary. 5And the east boundary is the fSalt Sea, to the mouth of the Jordan. And the boundary on the north side runs from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan. 6And the boundary goes up to gBeth-hoglah and passes along north of hBeth-arabah. And the boundary goes up to ithe stone of Bohan the son of Reuben. 7And the boundary goes up to Debir from jthe Valley of Achor, and so northward, turning toward Gilgal, which is opposite kthe ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the valley. And the boundary passes along to the waters of lEn-shemesh and ends at mEn-rogel. 8Then the boundary goes up by nthe Valley of the Son of Hinnom at the southern shoulder of the Jebusite ( othat is, Jerusalem). And the boundary goes up to the top of the mountain that lies over against the Valley of Hinnom, on the west, at the northern end of the Valley pof Rephaim. 9Then the boundary extends from the top of the mountain qto the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, and from there to the cities of Mount Ephron. Then the boundary bends around to Baalah ( rthat is, Kiriath-jearim). 10And the boundary circles west of Baalah to Mount Seir, passes along to the northern shoulder of Mount Jearim (that is, Chesalon), and goes down to sBeth-shemesh and passes along by tTimnah. 11The boundary goes out uto the shoulder of the hill north of Ekron, then the boundary bends around to Shikkeron and passes along to Mount vBaalah and goes out to Jabneel. Then the boundary comes to an end at the sea. 12And the west boundary was wthe Great Sea with its coastline. This is the boundary around the people of Judah according to their clans.

13According to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, he gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh a portion among the people of Judah, xKiriath-arba, that is, yHebron (Arba was the father of Anak). 14And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak, zSheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the descendants of Anak. 15And he went up from there against the inhabitants of Debir. aaNow the name of Debir formerly was Kiriath-sepher. 16And Caleb said, “Whoever strikes Kiriath-sepher and captures it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife.” 17 abAnd Othniel the son of Kenaz, acthe brother of Caleb, captured it. And he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife. 18When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field. And she got off her donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?” 19She said to him, “Give me a blessing. Since you have given me the land of the Negeb, give me also springs of water.” And he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

20This is the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Judah according to their clans. 21The cities belonging to the tribe of the people of Judah in the extreme south, toward the boundary of Edom, were Kabzeel, adEder, Jagur, 22Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah, 23Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan, 24 aeZiph, Telem, Bealoth, 25Hazor-hadattah, Kerioth-hezron (that is, Hazor), 26Amam, Shema, Moladah, 27Hazar-gaddah, Heshmon, Beth-pelet, 28Hazar-shual, afBeersheba, Biziothiah, 29Baalah, Iim, Ezem, 30Eltolad, Chesil, Hormah, 31 agZiklag, Madmannah, Sansannah, 32Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon: in all, twenty-nine cities with their villages.

Luke 6

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath

1 blOn a Sabbath,
Some manuscripts  On the second first Sabbath (that is, on the second Sabbath after the first)
while he was going through the grainfields, his disciples bnplucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands.
2But some of the Pharisees said, boWhy are you doing bpwhat is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?” 3And Jesus answered them, bq“Have you not read brwhat David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: 4how he entered the house of God and took and ate bsthe bread of the Presence, btwhich is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him?” 5And he said to them, bu“The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”

A Man with a Withered Hand

6On another Sabbath, bvhe entered the synagogue bwand was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was withered. 7And the scribes and the Pharisees bxwatched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, byso that they might find a reason to accuse him. 8But bzhe knew their thoughts, and he said to the man with the withered hand, Come and stand here.” And he rose and stood there. 9And Jesus said to them, “I ask you, cais it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?” 10And cbafter looking around at them all he said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” And cche did so, and his hand was restored. 11But they were filled with cdfury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

The Twelve Apostles

12In these days cehe went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God. 13And when day came, cfhe called his disciples cgand chchose from them twelve, whom he named ciapostles: 14Simon, cjwhom he named Peter, and ckAndrew his brother, and clJames and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, 15and cmMatthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called cnthe Zealot, 16and coJudas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

Jesus Ministers to a Great Multitude

17And cphe came down with them and stood on a level place, with cqa great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of crTyre and Sidon, 18who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. csAnd those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. 19And all the crowd ctsought to touch him, for cupower came out from him and healed them all.

The Beatitudes

20And cvhe lifted up his eyes on his disciples, cwand said:

Blessed are you who are poor, for cxyours is the kingdom of God.

21 cyBlessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied.

czBlessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

22Blessed are you when dapeople hate you and when they dbexclude you and revile you and dcspurn your name as evil, ddon account of the Son of Man! 23 deRejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for dfso their fathers did to the prophets.

Jesus Pronounces Woes

24 dgBut woe to you who are rich, dhfor you dihave received your consolation.

25Woe to you who are full now, for djyou shall be hungry.

Woe to dkyou who laugh now, dlfor you shall mourn and weep.

26Woe to you, dmwhen all people speak well of you, for dnso their fathers did to dothe false prophets.

Love Your Enemies

27But I say to you who hear, dpLove your enemies, dqdo good to those who hate you, 28 drbless those who curse you, dspray for those who abuse you. 29 dtTo one who dustrikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic
Greek chiton, a long garment worn under the cloak next to the skin
either.
30 dwGive to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. 31And dxas you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.

32 dyIf you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34And dzif you ealend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. 35But eblove your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and ecyou will be sons of edthe Most High, for eehe is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. 36 efBe merciful, even as egyour Father is merciful.

Judging Others

37 eh, eiJudge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; ejforgive, and you will be forgiven; 38 ekgive, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put elinto your lap. For emwith the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

39He also told them a parable: enCan a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40 eoA disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is epfully trained will be like his teacher. 41 eqWhy do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but erdo not notice the log that is in your own eye? 42How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.

A Tree and Its Fruit

43For esno good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, 44for eteach tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. 45 euThe good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evevil, ewfor out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Build Your House on the Rock

46 exWhy eydo you call meLord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? 47 ezEveryone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.
Some manuscripts founded upon the rock
49 fbBut the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and fcthe ruin of that house was great.”
