Joshua 9:18-20

18But the people of Israel did not attack them, because the leaders of the congregation had sworn to them by the Lord, the God of Israel. Then all the congregation murmured against the leaders. 19But all the leaders said to all the congregation, “We have sworn to them by the Lord, the God of Israel, and now we may not touch them. 20This we will do to them: let them live, lest awrath be upon us, bbecause of the oath that we swore to them.”

Judges 11:35

35And as soon as he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low, and you have become the cause of great trouble to me. For I have opened my mouth to the Lord, cand I cannot take back my vow.”

David Avenges the Gibeonites

1Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year. And David dsought the face of the Lord. And the Lord said, “There is bloodguilt on Saul and on his house, because he put the Gibeonites to death.” 2So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them. Now the Gibeonites were not of the people of Israel but eof the remnant of the Amorites. Although the people of Israel had sworn to spare them, Saul had sought to strike them down in his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah.

33Again fyou have heard that it was said to those of old, g‘You shall not swear falsely, but hshall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’
