The Birth of Samson
1And the people of Israel again adid what was evil in the sight of the Lord, so the Lord gave them binto the hand of the Philistines for forty years.1 Samuel 4:2-3
2The Philistines drew up in line against Israel, and when the battle spread, Israel was defeated before the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men on the field of battle. 3And when the people came to the camp, the elders of Israel said, “Why has the Lord defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord here cfrom Shiloh, that it ▼▼Or he
may come among us and save us from the power of our enemies.” 1 Samuel 4:10-11
10So the Philistines fought, eand Israel was defeated, fand they fled, every man to his home. And there was a very great slaughter, for thirty thousand foot soldiers of Israel fell. 11 gAnd the ark of God was captured, hand the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, died.Psalms 78:60-62
60He iforsook his dwelling at jShiloh,the tent where he dwelt among mankind,
61and delivered his kpower to captivity,
his lglory to the hand of the foe.
62He mgave his people over to the sword
and nvented his wrath on his heritage.
