15On the fourth
Septuagint, Syriac; Hebrew seventh
day they said to Samson’s wife, bEntice your husband to tell us what the riddle is, clest we burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you invited us here to impoverish us?”

1 Samuel 20:26-33

26Yet Saul did not say anything that day, for he thought, “Something has happened to him. dHe is not clean; surely he is not clean.” 27But on ethe second day, the day after the new moon, fDavid’s place was empty. And Saul said to Jonathan his son, “Why has not the son of Jesse come to the meal, either yesterday or today?” 28Jonathan answered Saul, gDavid earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem. 29He said, ‘Let me go, for our clan holds a sacrifice in the city, and my brother has commanded me to be there. So now, if I have found favor in your eyes, let me get away and see my brothers.’ For this reason he has not come to the king’s table.”

30Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, “You son of a perverse, rebellious woman, do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame, and to the shame of your mother’s nakedness? 31For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, neither you nor your kingdom shall be established. Therefore send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.” 32Then Jonathan answered Saul his father, hWhy should he be put to death? What has he done?” 33 iBut Saul hurled his spear at him to strike him. So Jonathan knew jthat his father was determined to put David to death.

1 Samuel 22:7-8

7And Saul said to his servants who stood about him, “Hear now, people of Benjamin; will the son of Jesse kgive every one of you fields and vineyards, will he make you all commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, 8that all of you have conspired against me? No one discloses to me lwhen my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse. None of you mis sorry for me or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, nto lie in wait, as at this day.”

1 Samuel 22:16-18

16And the king said, “You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house.” 17And the king said to othe guard who stood about him, “Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, because their hand also is with David, and they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me.” But the servants of the king would not put out their hand to strike the priests of the Lord. 18Then the king said to Doeg, “You turn and strike the priests.” And Doeg the Edomite turned and struck down the priests, pand he killed on that day eighty-five persons who wore the linen ephod.

1 Samuel 25:10-11

10And Nabal answered David’s servants, qWho is David? Who is the son of Jesse? rThere are many servants these days who are breaking away from their masters. 11Shall I take smy bread and my water and my meat that I have killed for my shearers and give it to tmen who come from I do not know where?”

2 Samuel 19:41-43

41Then all the men of Israel came to the king and said to the king, “Why have our brothers the men of Judah stolen you away and ubrought the king and his household over the Jordan, and all David’s men with him?” 42All the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, “Because the king is vour close relative. Why then are you angry over this matter? Have we eaten at all at the king’s expense? Or has he given us any gift?” 43And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, “We have wten shares in the king, and in David also we have more than you. Why then did you despise us? Were we not the first to speak of bringing back our king?” xBut the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
