11 aAnd the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals. 12 bAnd they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. cThey went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and dbowed down to them. eAnd they provoked the Lord to anger. 13They abandoned the Lord fand served the Baals and the Ashtaroth.

Judges 10:6-18

Further Disobedience and Oppression

6 gThe people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord hand served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, ithe gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. And they jforsook the Lord and did not serve him. 7So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and khe sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the Ammonites, 8and they crushed and oppressed the people of Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the people of Israel who were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead. 9And the Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was severely distressed.

10And the people of Israel lcried out to the Lord, saying, “We have sinned against you, because mwe have forsaken our God and have served the Baals.” 11And the Lord said to the people of Israel, “Did I not save you nfrom the Egyptians and ofrom the Amorites, pfrom the Ammonites and qfrom the Philistines? 12The Sidonians also, and rthe Amalekites and the Maonites oppressed you, and you cried out to me, and I ssaved you out of their hand. 13Yet you have tforsaken me and served other gods; therefore I will save you no more. 14Go and cry out uto the gods whom you have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.” 15And the people of Israel said to the Lord, “We have sinned; do to us whatever seems good to you. Only please deliver us this day.” 16So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord, and vhe became impatient over the misery of Israel.

17Then the Ammonites were called to arms, and they encamped in Gilead. And the people of Israel came together, and they encamped at wMizpah. 18And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said one to another, “Who is the man who will begin to fight against the Ammonites? xHe shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

Ezra 9:7

7 yFrom the days of our fathers to this day we have been in great zguilt. And for our iniquities we, our kings, and our priests have been given into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to plundering, aaand to utter shame, as it is today.

Nehemiah 9:26-30

26 ab“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you acand cast your law behind their back adand killed your prophets, who aehad warned them in order to turn them back to you, afand they committed great blasphemies. 27 agTherefore you gave them into the hand of their enemies, who made them suffer. ahAnd in the time of their suffering they cried out to you and you heard them from heaven, and according to your great mercies you gave them aisaviors who saved them from the hand of their enemies. 28 ajBut after they had rest they did evil again before you, and you abandoned them to the hand of their enemies, so that they had dominion over them. Yet when they turned and cried to you, you heard from heaven, akand many times you delivered them according to your mercies. 29 alAnd you warned them in order to turn them back to your law. Yet amthey acted presumptuously and did not obey your commandments, but sinned against your rules, anwhich if a person does them, he shall live by them, aoand they turned a stubborn shoulder apand stiffened their neck and would not obey. 30Many years aqyou bore with them arand warned them asby your Spirit through your prophets. atYet they would not give ear. auTherefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

Jeremiah 7:23-24

23But this command I gave them: avObey my voice, and awI will be your God, and you shall be my people. axAnd walk in all the way that I command you, aythat it may be well with you.’ 24 azBut they did not obey or incline their ear, babut walked in their own counsels and bbthe stubbornness of their evil hearts, and bcwent backward and not forward.

Jeremiah 11:7-8

7For I solemnly warned your fathers when I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, bdwarning them persistently, even to this day, saying, beObey my voice. 8 bfYet they did not obey or incline their ear, bgbut everyone walked in the stubbornness of his evil heart. Therefore I brought upon them all bhthe words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did not.”
