Judges 6:1-6

Midian Oppresses Israel

1 hThe people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord gave them into the hand of iMidian seven years. 2And the hand of Midian overpowered Israel, and because of Midian the people of Israel made for themselves the dens that are in the mountains and jthe caves and the strongholds. 3For whenever the Israelites planted crops, the Midianites and kthe Amalekites and lthe people of the East would come up against them. 4They would encamp against them mand devour the produce of the land, as far as Gaza, and leave no sustenance in Israel and no sheep or ox or donkey. 5For they would come up with their livestock and their tents; they would come nlike locusts in number—both they and their camels could not be counted—so that they laid waste the land as they came in. 6And Israel was brought very low because of Midian. And the people of Israel ocried out for help to the Lord.

Judges 10:8

8and they crushed and oppressed the people of Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the people of Israel who were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

Judges 13:1

1And the people of Israel again pdid what was evil in the sight of the Lord, so the Lord gave them qinto the hand of the Philistines for forty years.

1 Samuel 13:5-7

5And the Philistines mustered to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen and troops rlike the sand on the seashore in multitude. They came up and encamped in Michmash, to the east of sBeth-aven. 6When the men of Israel saw that they were in trouble (for the people were hard pressed), the people hid themselves tin caves and in holes and in rocks and in tombs and in cisterns, 7and some Hebrews crossed the fords of the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. Saul was still at Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.

1 Samuel 13:19-22

19 uNow there was no blacksmith to be found throughout all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, “Lest the Hebrews make themselves swords or spears.” 20But every one of the Israelites went down to the Philistines to sharpen his plowshare, his mattock, his axe, or his sickle,
Septuagint; Hebrew plowshare
21and the charge was two-thirds of a shekel
Hebrew  was a pim
for the plowshares and for the mattocks, and a third of a shekel
A  shekel was about 2/5 ounce or 11 grams
for sharpening the axes and for setting the goads.
The meaning of the Hebrew verse is uncertain
22So on the day of the battle zthere was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people with Saul and Jonathan, but Saul and Jonathan his son had them.

Nehemiah 9:26-29

26 aa“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you aband cast your law behind their back acand killed your prophets, who adhad warned them in order to turn them back to you, aeand they committed great blasphemies. 27 afTherefore you gave them into the hand of their enemies, who made them suffer. agAnd in the time of their suffering they cried out to you and you heard them from heaven, and according to your great mercies you gave them ahsaviors who saved them from the hand of their enemies. 28 aiBut after they had rest they did evil again before you, and you abandoned them to the hand of their enemies, so that they had dominion over them. Yet when they turned and cried to you, you heard from heaven, ajand many times you delivered them according to your mercies. 29 akAnd you warned them in order to turn them back to your law. Yet althey acted presumptuously and did not obey your commandments, but sinned against your rules, amwhich if a person does them, he shall live by them, anand they turned a stubborn shoulder aoand stiffened their neck and would not obey.

Nehemiah 9:37

37 apAnd its rich yield goes to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and over our livestock as they please, and we are in great distress.
