Amos 1:11-12

11 Thus says the Lord:

and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,

^hand his anger tore perpetually,

Edom Will Be Humbled

Thus says the Lord God ^lconcerning Edom:
^mWe have heard a report from the Lord,
and a messenger has been sent among the nations:
“Rise up! Let us rise against her for battle!”
2 Behold, I will make you small among the nations;
you shall be utterly despised. ^{▼▼Or Behold, I have made you small among the nations; you are utterly despised}
3 ^oThe pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rock, ^{▼▼Or Sela}
in your lofty dwelling,
^qwho say in your heart,
“Who will bring me down to the ground?”
4 Though you soar aloft like the eagle,
though your nest is set among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,

declares the Lord.
5 If ^rthieves came to you,
if plunderers came by night—
how you have been destroyed!—
would they not steal only enough for themselves?
If ^sgrape gatherers came to you,
would they not leave gleanings?
6 ^tHow Esau has been pillaged,
his treasures sought out!
7 All your allies have driven you to your border;
those at peace with you have deceived you;
they have prevailed against you;
^uthose who eat your bread ^{▼▼Hebrew lacks those who eat} have set a trap beneath you—
^wyou have ^{▼▼Hebrew he has} no understanding.
8 ^yWill I not on that day, declares the Lord,
destroy the wise men out of Edom,
and understanding out of ^zMount Esau?
9 And your mighty men shall be dismayed, ^aaO Teman,
so that every man from ^abMount Esau will be cut off by slaughter.

Malachi 1:2-4

The Lord’s Love for Israel

2 ^ac“I have loved you,” says the Lord. ^adBut you say, “How have you loved us?” “Is not Esau ^aeJacob’s brother?” declares the Lord. “Yet ^afI have loved Jacob 3 but Esau I have hated. ^agI have laid waste his hill country and left his heritage to jackals of the desert.” 4 If Edom says, “We are shattered but we will rebuild the ruins,” the Lord of hosts says, “They may build, but I will tear down, and they will be called ‘the wicked country,’ and ‘the people with whom the Lord is angry forever.’”
