11Thus says the Lord:

d“For three transgressions of eEdom,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
fbecause he pursued his brother with the sword
gand cast off all pity,
hand his anger tore perpetually,
iand he kept his wrath forever.
12So I will send a fire upon jTeman,
and it shall devour the strongholds of kBozrah.”

Edom Will Be Humbled

Thus says the Lord God lconcerning Edom:
mWe have heard a report from the Lord,
and a messenger has been sent among the nations:
Rise up! Let us rise against her for battle!”
2Behold, I will make you small among the nations;
you shall be utterly despised.
Or  Behold, I have made you small among the nations; you are utterly despised

3 oThe pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rock,
Or Sela

in your lofty dwelling,
qwho say in your heart,
Who will bring me down to the ground?”
4Though you soar aloft like the eagle,
though your nest is set among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,

declares the Lord.
5 If rthieves came to you,
if plunderers came by night
how you have been destroyed!—
would they not steal only enough for themselves?
If sgrape gatherers came to you,
would they not leave gleanings?
6 tHow Esau has been pillaged,
his treasures sought out!
7All your allies have driven you to your border;
those at peace with you have deceived you;
they have prevailed against you;
uthose who eat your bread
Hebrew lacks  those who eat
have set a trap beneath you—
wyou have
Hebrew he has
no understanding.
8 yWill I not on that day, declares the Lord,
destroy the wise men out of Edom,
and understanding out of zMount Esau?
9And your mighty men shall be dismayed, aaO Teman,
so that every man from abMount Esau will be cut off by slaughter.

Malachi 1:2-4

The Lord’s Love for Israel

2 ac“I have loved you,” says the Lord. adBut you say, “How have you loved us?” “Is not Esau aeJacob’s brother?” declares the Lord. “Yet afI have loved Jacob 3but Esau I have hated. agI have laid waste his hill country and left his heritage to jackals of the desert.” 4If Edom says, “We are shattered but we will rebuild the ruins,” the Lord of hosts says, “They may build, but I will tear down, and they will be called ‘the wicked country,’ and ‘the people with whom the Lord is angry forever.’”
