Psalms 22:1-21

Why Have You Forsaken Me?

To the choirmaster: according to The Doe of the Dawn. A Psalm of David.

1 rMy God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so sfar from saving me, from the words of my tgroaning?
2O my God, I cry by uday, but you do not answer,
and by night, but I find no rest.
3 Yet you are vholy,
wenthroned on xthe praises
Or dwelling in the praises
of Israel.
4In you our fathers trusted;
they trusted, and you delivered them.
5To you they zcried and were rescued;
in you they aatrusted and were not put to shame.
6 But I am aba worm and not a man,
acscorned by mankind and addespised by the people.
7All who see me aemock me;
they make mouths at me; they afwag their heads;
8 ag“He trusts in the Lord; let him ahdeliver him;
let him rescue him, for he aidelights in him!”
9 Yet you are he who ajtook me from the womb;
you made me trust you at my mother’s breasts.
10On you was I cast from my birth,
and from akmy mother’s womb you have been my God.
11Be not alfar from me,
for trouble is near,
and there is amnone to help.
12 Many bulls encompass me;
anstrong bulls of aoBashan surround me;
13they apopen wide their mouths at me,
like a ravening and roaring lion.
14 I am aqpoured out like water,
and all my bones are arout of joint;
my asheart is like atwax;
it is melted within my breast;
15my strength is audried up like a potsherd,
and my avtongue sticks to my jaws;
you lay me in the dust of death.
16 For awdogs encompass me;
a company of evildoers axencircles me;
they have aypierced my hands and feet
Some Hebrew manuscripts, Septuagint, Vulgate, Syriac; most Hebrew manuscripts like a lion [they are at] my hands and feet

17I can count all my bones
they bastare and gloat over me;
18 bbthey divide my garments among them,
and for my clothing they cast lots.
19 But you, O Lord, bcdo not be far off!
O you my help, bdcome quickly to my aid!
20Deliver my soul from the sword,
my precious life from the power of bethe dog!
21Save me from bfthe mouth of the lion!
You have rescued
Hebrew answered
me from the horns of bhthe wild oxen!
