Holiness and the Priests

1And the Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them, aNo one shall make himself unclean for the dead among his people,

Numbers 9:6-10

6And there were certain men who were bunclean through touching a dead body, so that they could not keep the Passover on that day, and cthey came before Moses and Aaron on that day. 7And those men said to him, “We are unclean through touching a dead body. Why are we kept from bringing the Lord’s doffering at its appointed time among the people of Israel?” 8And Moses said to them, “Wait, that eI may hear what the Lord will command concerning you.”

9The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 10Speak to the people of Israel, saying, If any one of you or of your descendants is unclean through touching a dead body, or is on a long journey, he shall still keep the Passover to the Lord.

Numbers 19:11-16

11 f“Whoever touches the dead body of any person shall be unclean seven days. 12He gshall cleanse himself with the water on the third day and on the seventh day, and so be clean. But if he does not cleanse himself on the third day and on the seventh day, he will not become clean. 13Whoever touches a dead person, the body of anyone who has died, and does not cleanse himself, hdefiles the tabernacle of the Lord, iand that person shall be cut off from Israel; because the water for impurity was not thrown on him, he shall be unclean. His uncleanness is still on him.

14“This is the law when someone dies in a tent: everyone who comes into the tent and everyone who is in the tent shall be unclean seven days. 15And every jopen vessel that has no cover fastened on it is unclean. 16 kWhoever in the open field touches someone who was killed with a sword or who died naturally, or touches a human bone or a lgrave, shall be unclean seven days.

Numbers 31:19

19 mEncamp outside the camp seven days. Whoever of you has killed any person and nwhoever has touched any slain, purify yourselves and your captives on the third day and on the seventh day.
