Luke 1:46-55

Mary’s Song of Praise: The Magnificat

46And Mary said,

aMy bsoul cmagnifies the Lord,
47 dand my espirit rejoices in fGod my Savior,
48for ghe has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations hwill call me blessed;
49for ihe who is mighty jhas done great things for me,
and kholy is his name.
50And lhis mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
51 mHe has shown strength with his arm;
nhe has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
52 ohe has brought down the mighty from their thrones
pand exalted those of humble estate;
53he has filled qthe hungry with good things,
and the rich rhe has sent away empty.
54He has shelped this servant Israel,
uin remembrance of his mercy,
55 vas he spoke to our fathers,

Luke 1:67-79

Zechariah’s Prophecy

67And his father Zechariah xwas filled with the Holy Spirit and yprophesied, saying,

68 zBlessed be the Lord aaGod of Israel,
for he has abvisited and acredeemed his people
69and adhas raised up aea horn of salvation for us
afin the house of his servant David,
70 agas ahhe spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,
71 aithat we should be saved from our enemies
and from the hand of all who hate us;
72 ajto show the mercy promised to our fathers
and akto remember his holy alcovenant,
73 amthe oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us
74that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies,
might serve him anwithout fear,
75 aoin holiness and righteousness before him apall our days.
76And you, child, will be called aqthe prophet of arthe Most High;
for asyou will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
77to give knowledge of salvation to his people
atin the forgiveness of their sins,
78because of the autender mercy of our God,
whereby avthe sunrise shall awvisit us
Or when the sunrise shall dawn upon us; some manuscripts since the sunrise has visited us
ayfrom on high
79to azgive light to bathose who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into bbthe way of bcpeace.”

Luke 2:34-38

34And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed bdfor the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign bethat is opposed 35(and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”

36And there was bfa prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, 37and then as a widow until she was eighty-four.
Or  as a widow for eighty-four years
She did not depart from the temple, bhworshiping with bifasting and prayer night and day.
38And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were bjwaiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
