Luke 1:76-79

76And you, child, will be called athe prophet of bthe Most High;
for cyou will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
77to give knowledge of salvation to his people
din the forgiveness of their sins,
78because of the etender mercy of our God,
whereby fthe sunrise shall gvisit us
Or when the sunrise shall dawn upon us; some manuscripts since the sunrise has visited us

79to jgive light to kthose who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,

Luke 3:16-18

16 nJohn answered them all, saying, “I baptize you with water, but ohe who is mightier than I is coming, pthe strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you qwith the Holy Spirit and rfire. 17His swinnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to tgather the wheat into his barn, ubut the chaff he will burn with vunquenchable fire.”

Behold, the Lamb of God

29The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, aathe Lamb of God, who abtakes away the sin acof the world! 30This is he of whom I said, adAfter me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ 31I myself did not know him, but aefor this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32And John afbore witness: ag“I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and ahit remained on him. 33I myself did not know him, but aihe who sent me to baptize ajwith water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, akthis is he who baptizes alwith the Holy Spirit.’ 34And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”

John 3:28-36

28You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, amI am not the Christ, but anI have been sent before him.’ 29 aoThe one who has the bride is the bridegroom. apThe friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, aqrejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. 30 arHe must increase, but I must decrease.”
Some interpreters hold that the quotation continues through verse 36

He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and avspeaks in an earthly way. awHe who comes from heaven axis above all. 32 ayHe bears witness to what he has seen and heard, azyet no one receives his testimony. 33Whoever receives his testimony basets his seal to this, bbthat God is true. 34For he whom bcGod has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit bdwithout measure. 35 beThe Father loves the Son and bfhas given all things into his hand. 36 bgWhoever believes in the Son has eternal life; bhwhoever does not obey the Son shall not bisee life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

John 5:33-35

33 bjYou sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. 34Not that bkthe testimony that I receive is from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35He was a burning and blshining lamp, and bmyou were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.
