53As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard and to provoke him to speak about many things, 54 blying in wait for him, cto catch him in something he might say.

Acts 6:9-11

9Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and disputed with Stephen. 10But vthey could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking. 11Then wthey secretly instigated men who said, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

The Stoning of Stephen

54Now when they heard these things xthey were enraged, and they yground their teeth at him. 55But he, zfull of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw aathe glory of God, and Jesus standing abat the right hand of God. 56And he said, “Behold, I see acthe heavens opened, and adthe Son of Man standing aeat the right hand of God.” 57But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together

58Then agthey cast him out of the city and ahstoned him. And aithe witnesses laid down their garments ajat the feet of a young man named Saul. 59And as they were stoning Stephen, akhe called out, “Lord Jesus, alreceive my spirit.”

Acts 19:24-28

24For a man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis, ambrought no little business to the craftsmen. 25 anThese he gathered together, with the workmen in similar trades, and said, “Men, you know that from this business we have our wealth. 26And you see and hear that not only in Ephesus but in almost all of Asia this Paul has persuaded and turned away a great many people, aosaying that apgods made with hands are not gods. 27And there is danger not only that this trade of ours may come into disrepute but also that the temple of the aqgreat goddess Artemis may be counted as nothing, and that she may even be deposed from her magnificence, she whom all Asia and the world worship.”

28When they heard this they were enraged and were crying out, arGreat is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
