Luke 17:11-37

Jesus Cleanses Ten Lepers

11 aOn the way to Jerusalem bhe was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. 12And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers,
Leprosy was a term for several skin diseases; see Leviticus 13
dwho stood at a distance
13and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” 14When he saw them he said to them, Go and eshow yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. 15Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, fpraising God with a loud voice; 16and ghe fell on his face at Jesusfeet, giving him thanks. Now he was ha Samaritan. 17Then Jesus answered, “Were not iten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18Was no one found to return and jgive praise to God except this kforeigner?” 19And he said to him, Rise and go your way; lyour faith has mmade you well.”

The Coming of the Kingdom

20Being asked by the Pharisees owhen the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God pis not coming in ways that can be observed, 21nor qwill they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ orThere!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”
Or within you, or within your grasp

22And he said to the disciples, s“The days are coming when you will desire tto see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23 uAnd they will say to you, ‘Look, there!’ orLook, here!’ Do not go out or follow them. 24 vFor as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be win his day.
Some manuscripts omit  in his day
25But first yhe must suffer many things and zbe rejected by this generation. 26 aaJust as it was in the days of abNoah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 acThey were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28Likewise, just as it was in the days of adLot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, 29 aebut on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all 30so will it be afon the day when the Son of Man is revealed. 31On that day, aglet the one who is on ahthe housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away, and likewise let the one who is in the field not turn back. 32 aiRemember Lot’s wife. 33 ajWhoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will akkeep it. 34I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left. 35 alThere will be two women amgrinding together. One will be taken and the other left.”
Some manuscripts add verse 36: Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left
37And they said to him, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, aoWhere the corpse
Greek body
is, there the vultures
Or eagles
will gather.”

Luke 18:1-14

The Parable of the Persistent Widow

1And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought aralways to pray and not aslose heart. 2He said, In a certain city there was a judge who atneither feared God nor respected man. 3And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ 4For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, auThough I neither fear God nor respect man, 5yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” 6And the Lord said, Hear what the unrighteous judge says. 7And avwill not God give justice to awhis elect, axwho cry to him day and night? ay, azWill he delay long over them? 8I tell you, he will give justice to them baspeedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, bbwill he find faith on earth?”

The Pharisee and the Tax Collector

9He also told this parable to some bcwho trusted bdin themselves that they were righteous, beand treated others with contempt: 10Two men bfwent up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee, bgstanding by himself, prayed
Or  standing, prayed to himself
bithus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
12 bjI fast twice a week; bkI give tithes of all that I get.’ 13But the tax collector, blstanding far off, bmwould not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but bnbeat his breast, saying, ‘God, bobe merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For bpeveryone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
