Luke 18:9-13

The Pharisee and the Tax Collector

9He also told this parable to some awho trusted bin themselves that they were righteous, cand treated others with contempt: 10Two men dwent up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee, estanding by himself, prayed
Or  standing, prayed to himself
gthus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
12 hI fast twice a week; iI give tithes of all that I get.’ 13But the tax collector, jstanding far off, kwould not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but lbeat his breast, saying, ‘God, mbe merciful to me, a sinner!’

Romans 4:15

15For nthe law brings wrath, but owhere there is no law pthere is no transgression.

Romans 7:9-13

9I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. 10The very commandment qthat promised life proved to be death to me. 11For sin, rseizing an opportunity through the commandment, sdeceived me and through it killed me. 12So tthe law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.

13Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.

Romans 8:7

7For the mind that is set on the flesh is uhostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; vindeed, it cannot.

Galatians 2:16

16yet we know that wa person is not justified
Or counted righteous (three times in verse 16); also verse 17
by works of the law ybut through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, zbecause by works of the law no one will be justified.
