The Birth of Jesus Christ

1 In those days ^aa decree went out from ^bCaesar Augustus that all the world should be ^cregistered. 2 This was the first ^dregistration when ^{▼▼Or This was the registration before} Quirinius ^fwas governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up ^gfrom Galilee, from the town of ^hNazareth, to Judea, to ⁱthe city of David, which is called ^jBethlehem, ^kbecause he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, ^{▼▼That is, one legally pledged to be married} who was with child.
