Ananias and Sapphira

1But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, 2and with his wife’s knowledge ohe kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and plaid it at the apostlesfeet. 3But Peter said, “Ananias, why has qSatan filled your heart to lie rto the Holy Spirit and sto keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? 4While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but tto God.” 5When Ananias heard these words, he ufell down and breathed his last. And vgreat fear came upon all who heard of it.

Acts 8:19-22

19saying, “Give me this power also, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” 20But Peter said to him, w“May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God xwith money! 21You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for yyour heart is not right before God. 22Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, zif possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you.
