Matthew 19:8-9

8 He said to them, “Because of your ^phardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 ^qAnd I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.” ^{▼▼Some manuscripts add and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery; other manuscripts except for sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery}

Mark 10:5-12

5 And Jesus said to them, “Because of your ^shardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. 6 But ^tfrom the beginning of creation, ‘God made them ^umale and female.’ 7 ^v‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, ^{▼▼Some manuscripts omit and hold fast to his wife} 8 and ^xthe two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. 9 ^yWhat therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

10 And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. 11 And he said to them, ^z“Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, 12 and ^aaif she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

Divorce and Remarriage

Romans 7:3

3 Accordingly, ^acshe will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress.

1 Corinthians 7:4

4 For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.

1 Corinthians 7:10-11

10 To the married ^adI give this charge (not I, but the Lord): ^aethe wife should not separate from her husband 11 (but if she does, ^afshe should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and ^agthe husband should not divorce his wife.
