Malachi 4:5-6

5 aBehold, I will send you bElijah the prophet cbefore the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. 6And he will dturn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and estrike the land with a decree of utter destruction.”
The Hebrew term rendered  decree of utter destruction refers to things devoted (or set apart) to the Lord (or by the Lord) for destruction

Matthew 27:47-49

47And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” 48And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with isour wine, and put it on a reed and jgave it to him to drink. 49But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.”

Mark 9:11

11And they asked him, “Why do the scribes say kthat first Elijah must come?”

John 1:21

21And they asked him, “What then? lAre you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you mthe Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”

John 1:25

25They asked him, nThen why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
