Mar 11:1-11, Luk 19:29-44 | ESV | STEP | Now when they drew near to Jerusalem , to Bethphage and Bethany , at the Mount of Olives , Jesus sent two of his disciples

1 ^aNow when they drew near to Jerusalem, to ^bBethphage and Bethany, at ^cthe Mount of Olives, Jesus ^{▼▼Greek he} sent ^etwo of his disciples 2 and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, ^fon which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” 4 And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. 5 And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6 And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. 8 And many ^gspread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. 9 And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, ^h“Hosanna! ⁱBlessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 10 Blessed is ^jthe coming ^kkingdom of ^lour father ^mDavid! ⁿHosanna ^oin the highest!”

11 ^pAnd he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, ^qhe went out to Bethany with the twelve.

Luke 19:29-44

29 ^rWhen he drew near to Bethphage and ^sBethany, at ^tthe mount that is called Olivet, he sent ^utwo of the disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, ^von which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” 32 So those who were sent went away and found it ^wjust as he had told them. 33 And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” 35 And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. 36 And as he rode along, they ^xspread their cloaks on the road. 37 As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives— ^ythe whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice ^zfor all the mighty works that they had seen, 38 saying, ^aa“Blessed is ^abthe King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and ^acglory in the highest!” 39 ^adAnd some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, ^aethe very stones would cry out.”

Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem

41 ^afAnd when he drew near and saw the city, ^aghe wept over it, 42 saying, ^ah“Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now ^aithey are hidden from your eyes. 43 For ^ajthe days will come upon you, when your enemies ^akwill set up a barricade around you and ^alsurround you and hem you in on every side 44 ^amand tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And ^anthey will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know ^aothe time of your ^apvisitation.”
