Jesus Delivered to Pilate

1 aAnd as soon as it was morning, the chief priests bheld a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. And cthey bound Jesus and dled him away and edelivered him over to fPilate. 2 gAnd Pilate asked him, hAre you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, iYou have said so.” 3And the chief priests accused him of many things. 4And Pilate again asked him, j“Have you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against you.” 5But Jesus kmade no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.

Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified

6 lNow at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked. 7And among the rebels in prison, who had mcommitted murder nin the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas. 8And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them. 9And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” 10For he perceived that oit was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up. 11But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead. 12And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with pthe man you call the King of the Jews?” 13And they cried out again, “Crucify him.” 14And Pilate said to them, “Why? qWhat evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.” 15So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having rscourged
A Roman judicial penalty, consisting of a severe beating with a multi-lashed whip containing imbedded pieces of bone and metal
Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

Luke 23:1-25

Jesus Before Pilate

1 tThen the whole company of them arose and brought him before Pilate. 2And they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man umisleading our nation and vforbidding us to give tribute to wCaesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, xa king.” 3 yAnd Pilate asked him, zAre you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, aaYou have said so.” 4Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, ab“I find no guilt in this man.” 5But they were urgent, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, acfrom Galilee even to this place.”

Jesus Before Herod

6When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean. 7And when he learned that he belonged to adHerod’s jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time. 8When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, aefor he had long desired to see him, afbecause he had heard about him, and he was hoping agto see some sign done by him. 9So he questioned him at some length, but he made no answer. 10The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him. 11And Herod with his soldiers ahtreated him with contempt and aimocked him. Then, ajarraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate. 12And akHerod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other.

13Pilate then called together the chief priests and althe rulers and the people, 14and said to them, “You brought me this man amas one who was misleading the people. And anafter examining him before you, behold, I aodid not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him. 15Neither did Herod, for aphe sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him. 16 aqI will therefore punish and release him.”
Here, or after verse 19, some manuscripts add verse 17: Now he was obliged to release one man to them at the festival

Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified

18 asBut they all cried out together, at“Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”— 19a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and aufor murder. 20Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus, 21but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!” 22A third time he said to them, “Why, avWhat evil has he done? awI have found in him no guilt deserving death. axI will therefore punish and release him.” 23But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed. 24So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted. 25He released the man who had been thrown into prison ayfor insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, azbut he delivered Jesus over to their will.

John 18:28-40

Jesus Before Pilate

28 baThen they led Jesus bbfrom the house of Caiaphas to bcthe governor’s headquarters.
Greek  the praetorium
It was early morning. They themselves did not enter the governor’s headquarters, beso that they would not be defiled, bfbut could eat the Passover.
29 bgSo Pilate went outside to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” 30They answered him, “If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.” 31Pilate said to them, bhTake him yourselves and judge him by your own law.” The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.” 32 biThis was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken bjto show by what kind of death he was going to die.

My Kingdom Is Not of This World

33 bkSo Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, blAre you the King of the Jews?” 34Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?” 35Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” 36Jesus answered, bmMy kingdom bnis not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, bomy servants would have been fighting, that bpI might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” 37Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, bqYou say that I am a king. brFor this purpose I was born and for this purpose bsI have come into the worldbtto bear witness to the truth. buEveryone who is bvof the truth bwlistens to my voice.” 38Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”

After he had said this, bxhe went back outside to the Jews and told them, byI find no guilt in him.
39 bzBut you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” 40They cried out again, caNot this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.
Or  an insurrectionist
