42 ^aAnd when evening had come, since it was ^bthe day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, ^ca respected member of the council, who ^dwas also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

So he came and took away his body. 39 ⁱNicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus ^{▼▼Greek him} by night, came ^kbringing a mixture of ^lmyrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds ^{▼▼Greek one hundred litras; a litra (or Roman pound) was equal to about 11 1/2 ounces or 327 grams} in weight. 40 So they took the body of Jesus and ⁿbound it in ^olinen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. 41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a ^pgarden, and ^qin the garden a new tomb ^rin which no one had yet been laid. 42 So because of the Jewish ^sday of Preparation, ^tsince the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.
