5Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6And gat this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7And hthey were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking iGalileans? 8And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 9Parthians and jMedes and kElamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11both Jews and lproselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” 12And mall were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”

Acts 10:46-47

46For they were hearing them nspeaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared, 47 oCan anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit pjust as we have?”

Acts 19:6

6And qwhen Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and rthey began speaking in tongues and sprophesying.

1 Corinthians 12:28-30

28And tGod has appointed in the church first uapostles, second vprophets, third teachers, then wmiracles, then xgifts of healing, yhelping, zadministrating, and aavarious kinds of tongues. 29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?

1 Corinthians 13:1

The Way of Love

1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

1 Corinthians 14:2-4

2For abone who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. 3On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. 4The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church.

1 Corinthians 14:23

23If, therefore, the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers enter, acwill they not say that you are out of your minds?

27If any speak in ada tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret.

1 Corinthians 14:39

39So, my brothers, aeearnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.
