Who Is the Greatest?

33And athey came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house bhe asked them, What were you discussing on the way?” 34But they kept silent, for on the way cthey had argued with one another about who was the greatest. 35And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, d“If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” 36And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and etaking him in his arms, he said to them, 37 fWhoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and gwhoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”

Anyone Not Against Us Is for Us

38 hJohn said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone icasting out demons in your name,

and kwe tried to stop him, because he was not following us.”
39But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. 40 lFor the one who is not against us is for us. 41For truly, I say to you, mwhoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.

Luke 9:46-60

Who Is the Greatest?

46 nAn argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest. 47But Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a child and put him by his side 48and said to them, oWhoever receives this child in my name receives me, and pwhoever receives me receives him who sent me. For qhe who is least among you all is the one who is great.”

Anyone Not Against Us Is For Us

49 rJohn answered, “Master, we saw someone scasting out demons in your name, and twe tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us.” 50But Jesus said to him, Do not stop him, ufor the one who is not against you is for you.”

A Samaritan Village Rejects Jesus

51When the days drew near for vhim to be taken up, whe set his face xto go to Jerusalem. 52And yhe sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of zthe Samaritans, to make preparations for him. 53But aathe people did not receive him, because abhis face was set toward Jerusalem. 54And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell acfire to come down from heaven and consume them?”

The Cost of Following Jesus

57As they were going afalong the road, agsomeone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58And Jesus said to him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59To another he said, Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60And Jesus
