The Twelve Apostles

1 ^aAnd he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction. 2 ^bThe names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, ^cwho is called Peter, and ^dAndrew his brother; ^eJames the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and ^fMatthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; ^{▼▼Some manuscripts Lebbaeus, or Lebbaeus called Thaddaeus} 4 Simon the Zealot, ^{▼▼Greek kananaios, meaning zealot} and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Mark 6:7-13

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

7 ⁱAnd he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— 9 but to ^jwear sandals and not put on two tunics. ^{▼▼Greek chiton, a long garment worn under the cloak next to the skin} 10 And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. 11 And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, ^lshake off the dust that is on your feet ^mas a testimony against them.” 12 ⁿSo they went out and ^oproclaimed ^pthat people should repent. 13 ^qAnd they cast out many demons and ^ranointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.
