5 jThey do all their deeds kto be seen by others. For they make ltheir phylacteries broad and mtheir fringes long, 6and they nlove the place of honor at feasts and othe best seats in the synagogues 7and pgreetings in qthe marketplaces and being called rrabbi

Beware of the Scribes

45 tAnd in the hearing of all the people he said to his disciples, 46Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and uthe places of honor at feasts, 47 vwho devour widowshouses and wfor a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”
