Not Peace, but a Sword

34 a“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. bI have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 cFor I have come dto set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

Luke 12:51-53

51 eDo you think that I have come to give peace on earth? fNo, I tell you, but rather division. 52For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. 53They will be divided, gfather against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

John 7:40-43

Division Among the People

40When they heard these words, hsome of the people said, “This really is ithe Prophet.” 41Others said, “This is jthe Christ.” But some said, kIs the Christ to come from Galilee? 42Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes lfrom the offspring of David, and comes mfrom Bethlehem, the village nwhere David was?” 43So there was oa division among the people over him.

John 9:16

16Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not pfrom God, qfor he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others said, rHow can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And sthere was a division among them.

1 Corinthians 3:3
