Matthew 11:11

11Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Matthew 14:2-14

2and he said to his servants, aThis is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead; that is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.” 3For bHerod had seized John and bound him and cput him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

4because John had been saying to him, e“It is not lawful for you to have her.” 5And though he wanted to put him to death, fhe feared the people, because they held him to be ga prophet. 6But when Herod’s hbirthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company and pleased Herod, 7so that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. 8Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.” 9And the king was sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he commanded it to be given. 10He sent and had John beheaded in the prison, 11and his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. 12And ihis disciples came and took the body and buried it, and they went and told Jesus.

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

13Now when Jesus heard this, jhe withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. 14When he went ashore he ksaw a great crowd, and lhe had compassion on them and healed their sick.

Matthew 16:14

14And they said, “Some say mJohn the Baptist, others say nElijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

Matthew 17:12-13

12But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but odid to him whatever they pleased. pSo also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.” 13 qThen the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

Matthew 21:25-27

25The baptism of John, rfrom where did it come? sFrom heaven or from man?” And they discussed it among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, tWhy then did you not believe him?’ 26But if we say, ‘From man,’ uwe are afraid of the crowd, for they all hold that John was va prophet.” 27So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

Matthew 21:32

32For John came to you win the way of righteousness, and xyou did not believe him, but ythe tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward zchange your minds and believe him.

Mark 1:4

Mark 6:16-29

16But when Herod heard of it, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised.” 17 aiFor it was Herod who had sent and seized John and ajbound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her. 18 akFor John had been saying to Herod, al“It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” 19And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not, 20for Herod amfeared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he anheard him gladly.

21But an opportunity came when Herod aoon his birthday apgave a banquet for his nobles and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee. 22For when Herodias’s daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. And the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.” 23And he vowed to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, aqup to half of my kingdom.” 24And she went out and said to her mother, “For what should I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.” 25And she came in immediately with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.” 26And the king was exceedingly sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her. 27And immediately the king sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s

28and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother. 29When his asdisciples heard of it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.
