Matthew 11:9-14

9What then did you go out to see? aA prophet?
Some manuscripts Why then did you go out? To see a prophet?
Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
10This is he of whom it is written,

c“‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face,
who will prepare your way before you.’
11Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 dFrom the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence,
Or  has been coming violently
and the violent take it by force.
13 fFor all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John, 14and if you are willing to accept it, he is gElijah who is to come.

John 3:26-30

26And they came to John and said to him, hRabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, ito whom you bore witnesslook, he is baptizing, and jall are going to him.” 27John answered, k“A person cannot receive even one thing lunless it is given him mfrom heaven. 28You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, nI am not the Christ, but oI have been sent before him.’ 29 pThe one who has the bride is the bridegroom. qThe friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rrejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. 30 sHe must increase, but I must decrease.”
Some interpreters hold that the quotation continues through verse 36
