Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

13Now when Jesus heard this, ahe withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns.

Matthew 14:15-21

15Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; bsend the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” 16But Jesus said, “They need not go away; cyou give them something to eat.” 17They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” 18And he said, Bring them here to me.” 19Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, dhe looked up to heaven and esaid a blessing. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 20And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. 21And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Mark 6:31-32

31And he said to them, Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and fthey had no leisure even to eat. 32 gAnd they went away in hthe boat to a desolate place by themselves.

34When he went ashore he isaw a great crowd, and jhe had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things. 35And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late. 36 kSend them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” 37But he answered them, l“You give them something to eat.” And mthey said to him, n“Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii
A  denarius was a day’s wage for a laborer
worth of bread and give it to them to eat?”
38And he said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said, pFive, and two fish.” 39Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass. 40So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties. 41And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he qlooked up to heaven and rsaid a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. 42And they all ate and were satisfied. 43And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. 44And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.

Luke 9:10-17

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

10On their return sthe apostles told him all that they had done. tAnd he took them and withdrew apart to a town called Bethsaida. 11When the crowds learned it, they followed him, and he uwelcomed them and vspoke to them of the kingdom of God and wcured those who had need of healing. 12Now xthe day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to him, y“Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in a desolate place.” 13But he said to them, zYou give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than aafive loaves and two fishunless we are to go and buy food for all these people.” 14For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15And they did so, and had them all sit down. 16And taking the five loaves and the two fish, abhe looked up to heaven and acsaid a blessing over them. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. 17And they all ate and were satisfied. And what was left over was picked up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.
