Matthew 15:2-9

2 aWhy do your disciples break bthe tradition of the elders? cFor they do not wash their hands when they eat.” 3He answered them, And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 4For God commanded, dHonor your father and your mother,’ and, e‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ 5But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,”
Or  is an offering
6he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have gmade void the word

7 iYou hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:

8 j“‘This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me;
9in vain do they worship me,
teaching as kdoctrines the commandments of men.’”

Mark 7:3-13

3(For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands properly,
Greek  unless they wash the hands with a fist, probably indicating a kind of ceremonial washing
holding to mthe tradition of nthe elders,
4and when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash.

And there are many other traditions that they observe, such as pthe washing of qcups and pots and copper vessels and dining couches.

5And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not walk according to sthe tradition of tthe elders, ubut eat with vdefiled hands?” 6And he said to them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you whypocrites, as it is written,

x“‘This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me;
7in vain do they worship me,
teaching as ydoctrines the commandments of men.’
8You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.”

9And he said to them, “You have a fine way of zrejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! 10For Moses said, aaHonor your father and your mother’; and, ab‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ 11But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God)
Or an offering
12then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, 13thus admaking void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

Galatians 1:14

14And I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely aezealous was I for afthe traditions of my fathers.
