7 aYou hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:

but their heart is far from me;
9in vain do they worship me,
teaching as cdoctrines the commandments of men.’”

11The Pharisee, dstanding by himself, prayed
Or  standing, prayed to himself
fthus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
12 gI fast twice a week; hI give tithes of all that I get.’ 13But the tax collector, istanding far off, jwould not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but kbeat his breast, saying, ‘God, lbe merciful to me, a sinner!’
