Matthew 17:17-25

17 And Jesus answered, “O faithless and ^atwisted generation, how long am I to be with you? ^bHow long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” 18 And Jesus ^crebuked the demon, ^{▼▼Greek it} and it ^{▼▼Greek the demon} came out of him, and ^fthe boy was healed instantly. ^{▼▼Greek from that hour} 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 He said to them, ^h“Because of your little faith. For ⁱtruly, I say to you, ^jif you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, ^kyou will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and ^lnothing will be impossible for you.” ^{▼▼Some manuscripts insert verse 21: But this kind never comes out except by prayer and fasting}

Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection

22 ⁿAs they were gathering ^{▼▼Some manuscripts remained} in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, 23 and they will kill him, and he will be raised on ^pthe third day.” And they were greatly distressed.

The Temple Tax

24 ^qWhen they came to Capernaum, the collectors of ^rthe two-drachma tax went up to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay the tax?” 25 He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, ^s“What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or ^ttax? From their sons or from others?”

Luke 23:15-23

15 Neither did Herod, for ^uhe sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him. 16 ^vI will therefore punish and release him.” ^{▼▼Here, or after verse 19, some manuscripts add verse 17: Now he was obliged to release one man to them at the festival}

Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified

18 ^xBut they all cried out together, ^y“Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”— 19 a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and ^zfor murder. 20 Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus, 21 but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!” 22 A third time he said to them, “Why, ^aaWhat evil has he done? ^abI have found in him no guilt deserving death. ^acI will therefore punish and release him.” 23 But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.
