The Temple Tax

24 qWhen they came to Capernaum, the collectors of rthe two-drachma tax went up to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay the tax?” 25He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, sWhat do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or ttax? From their sons or from others?”

Luke 23:15-23

15Neither did Herod, for uhe sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him. 16 vI will therefore punish and release him.”

Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified

18 xBut they all cried out together, y“Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”— 19a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and zfor murder. 20Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus, 21but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!” 22A third time he said to them, “Why, aaWhat evil has he done? abI have found in him no guilt deserving death. acI will therefore punish and release him.” 23But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.
