Who Is the Greatest?

1 aAt that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them 3and said, Truly, I say to you, unless you bturn and cbecome like children, you dwill never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 eWhoever humbles himself like this child is the fgreatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5 gWhoever receives one such child in my name receives me,

21And he said to her, What do you want?” She said to him, “Say that these two sons of mine hare to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, iin your kingdom.” 22Jesus answered, j“You do not know what you are asking. Are you able kto drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.” 23He said to them, l“You will drink mmy cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, nbut it is for those for whom it has been oprepared by my Father.” 24And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers.

46 pAn argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest. 47But Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a child and put him by his side 48and said to them, qWhoever receives this child in my name receives me, and rwhoever receives me receives him who sent me. For she who is least among you all is the one who is great.”

24 tA dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25 uAnd he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles vexercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26 wBut not so with you. Rather, let xthe greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. 27For who is the greater, yone who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But zI am among you as the one who serves.

28You are those who have stayed with me aain my trials, 29and abI assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, 30 acthat you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and adsit on thrones judging aethe twelve tribes of Israel.
