The Flight to Egypt

13Now when they had departed, behold, aan angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” 14And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt 15and remained there until the death of Herod. bThis was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, c“Out of Egypt I called my son.”

Herod Kills the Children

16Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men.

Luke 13:31-33

Lament over Jerusalem

31At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, “Get away from dhere, for eHerod wants to kill you.” 32And he said to them, Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day fI finish my course. 33Nevertheless, gI hmust go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that ia prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.’

Luke 23:7-12

7And when he learned that he belonged to jHerod’s jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time. 8When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, kfor he had long desired to see him, lbecause he had heard about him, and he was hoping mto see some sign done by him. 9So he questioned him at some length, but he made no answer. 10The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him. 11And Herod with his soldiers ntreated him with contempt and omocked him. Then, parraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate. 12And qHerod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other.
