Matthew 21:1-9

The Triumphal Entry

1 aNow when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to bthe Mount of Olives, then Jesus csent two disciples, 2saying to them, Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.” 4This took place dto fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying,

5 eSay to the daughter of Zion,
Behold, your king is coming to you,
fhumble, and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt,
Or donkey, and on a colt,
the foal of a beast of burden.’”
6The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. 7They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. 8Most of the crowd hspread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, iHosanna to jthe Son of David! kBlessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna lin the highest!”

Untie it and bring it here. 31If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” 32So those who were sent went away and found it rjust as he had told them. 33And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” 35And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. 36And as he rode along, they sspread their cloaks on the road. 37As he was drawing nearalready on the way down the Mount of Olivestthe whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice ufor all the mighty works that they had seen, 38saying, vBlessed is wthe King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and xglory in the highest!” 39 yAnd some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” 40He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, zthe very stones would cry out.”
