Matthew 21:33-40

The Parable of the Tenants

33 aHear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted ba vineyard cand put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and dleased it to tenants, and ewent into another country. 34When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants
Greek bondservants; also verses 35, 36
to the tenants gto get his fruit.
35 hAnd the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and istoned another. 36 jAgain he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. 37Finally he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, kThis is the heir. Come, llet us kill him and have his inheritance.’ 39And they took him and mthrew him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 nWhen therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”

Matthew 23:29-35

29 oWoe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous, 30saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31Thus you witness against yourselves that you are psons of those who murdered the prophets. 32 qFill up, then, the measure of your fathers. 33You serpents, ryou brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to shell? 34 tTherefore uI send you vprophets and wise men and wscribes, xsome of whom you will kill and crucify, and ysome you will zflog in your synagogues and aapersecute from town to town, 35so that on you may come all abthe righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous acAbel to the blood of adZechariah the son of Barachiah,
Some manuscripts omit  the son of Barachiah
whom you murdered between afthe sanctuary and agthe altar.
