Matthew 23:16-24

16Woe to ayou, bblind guides, who say, cIf anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ 17You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or dthe temple that has made the gold sacred? 18And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by ethe gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’ 19You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or fthe altar that makes the gift sacred? 20So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by ghim who dwells in it. 22And whoever swears by hheaven swears by ithe throne of God and by jhim who sits upon it.

23 kWoe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For lyou tithe mint and dill and mcumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: njustice and mercy and faithfulness. oThese you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 24You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing pa camel!

17But if you call yourself a Jew and aerely on the law and boast in God 18and know his will and approve what is excellent, because you are instructed from the law; 19and if you are sure that you yourself are afa guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, 20an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law agthe embodiment of ahknowledge and truth 21 aiyou then who teach others, do you not teach yourself? While you preach against stealing, do you steal? 22You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you ajrob temples? 23You who akboast in the law aldishonor God by breaking the law.
